About Us

TROOP 722 serves Castro Valley and surrounding communities with service projects and volunteer work. We have an active program featuring hiking, camping, backpacking, rock climbing, river rafting, bicycling, summer camp, and other activities planned each month.

In 1959, an ambitious group of local men and women brought together Scoutmaster Thomas Peters with Cubmaster John D. Mc Wethy and Committee Chairs Charles A. Widmann and James Leavitt to bring scouting to Castro Valley. On February 28, 1959, BSA President K. K. Bechtel, BSA Vice President Herbert Hoover, National Scout Commissioner George Fisher and other luminaries of BSA, signed their names in blue ink granting the first charters of Troop and Pack #722 Castro Valley to the Vannoy Dads' Club. And with that, our great troop began.

A year later, and already 3 scouts had progressed to the rank of First Class and 5 new scouts were inducted. With Scoutmaster Emil Scholz and Committee Chair John Hull, the growing troop held monthly events, including a winter snow trip, Spring Camporee, Scoutorama, a campout and hike on Mt Diablo, and the Nail Driving booth at the Vannoy Carnival.

As of 2014, over 80 Scouts have earned their Eagle rank in Troop 722.
